Three thirds (SCR edit)

You can already find the remix version from Chipfusion's CDbaby pages. It's already fully streamable at Youtube, too, so feel free to check it out & enjoy! It's coming to Spotify etc places in coming days as well.

Decision and some cover artwork

There will be just one remix edition, the one which I just yesterday finalized. In the end it felt pointless making a remix edition with zero beats. The material works so much better with strong beats. Easy decision in the end.

As a result the remix edition will be coming out sooner than I thought few days ago (as I was still thinking about the possible double remix edition). The release date is set for 2nd February ... 02 02 20 20. Fitting date for release having 20 pieces.

As usual, it's going to be distributed through cdbaby, which means it will be about a week or so and it's appearing into Spotify, Youtube etc services for streaming. I'll write about it here when it's coming.

Remix package in the works

I've been doing a remix edition of 'Three thirds' release since beginning of 2020, just haven't bothered writing about it here on a daily basis. I had this idea for remix package already few months ago, and there's funny twist to the idea (like it wouldn't always go like this, hah) ... depending on how it feels, the remix package might be a "double remix edition". Or then not. What is sure, is that there will be this remix version I'm working currently. All the 20 songs will be remixed into certain style. What style is it then?

It's like return to the debut release 'Yksi' (2017) in the way that there will be only the chiptune bases and simplistic drumworks around them. While on debut release it was purely techno style drumbeats and very simple stuff, it's ... well, it's quite a lot like that on this remix package too, but not just techno, some variation and bridges to the actual 'Three thirds' release.

This remix package is already at the mixing & mastering stage. All the 20 songs have been worked, all the basslines, guitars, guitarsolos, sound effects and original drumbeats of 'Three thirds' have been dropped off and I've reworked different (very much simplified) drumbeats to the songs. The songs feel quite different now, which was the original idea of this remix, too.

Anyway, remix release is on it's way and it might be out already during February or March 2020.

From soundscapes into mastering stage

As I thought the final soundscapin' stage got completed fast, one eve session. During past two days I've spent about all my free time with mastering and I'm about getting it completed.

It looks the release date might be on monday already. I'll post track list and artwork here in coming day or two ... or so. I'll also make full album stream for youtube, and the release is going to be distributed through cdbaby so expect to see it coming to spotify etc services before Christmas 2019 arrives. The cover artwork is quite festive, coincidentally. :)

Guitars completed

The rest three songs got guitars recorded during past two days. Tonight I also recorded some additional guitars, but now I think it's all done when it comes to guitars.

Next up is the stage three, additional soundscapes as / if / where needed (based on pure feeling). Probably nothing major up, but something, anyway. Yeah.

I think I might make two different versions of this chip release. This one I'm working currently, is the "main release", fusion package. Depending on how things feel, I might end up doing a very stripped down version with plain chiptunes and simplified drums. But I'm not doing it right away - if I'm doing such thing. It could work as remix release.

It seems this release might well be ready still during 2019. We'll see.

Time warp

Some time has passed. Yeah. What happened?

Daily life rolling fast, lots of things to do - with Chipfusion, I did the guitar sound experiments in late September as I planned, but then work with Chipfusion paused. It just happened, and in the end it felt like a good thing. As I continued working with Chipfusion around middle of November, it felt like coming to the songs with all fresh ears and vibes. So, ...

I started recording guitars for the 20 songs about 2-3 weeks ago. 17 songs have all the guitars recorded, 3 songs remain to be expanded with guitars. So far it feels the material has turned just the way I wanted. Recently I've also crafted the front and back cover artworks - front cover is 100 % ready while back cover is about 80 % done.

I'm hoping to get the album released still during 2019.

Drumworks

During past two days I went all the songs through, 10 songs per evening - and tweaked the bassdrum & snare all through. Also some tom works. And this drumworks session was not just sample editing and stuff (it was that, too), but also listening each song multiple times through and editing / changing beats where necessary, at times also where not necessary at all.

These two days were very good drum sessions, yeah. Really changed the overall vibe big time, and the music flows really nicely now. Much closer to my vision for how it should sound, yes. Feels really good, again.

Next up ... I think it might well be the guitar department. Will have to start doing some sound experiments next, and then some recording tests. When that's done, it's up to recording the real stuff for the songs. Some of these new songs feel like ... I already like them big time, but imagining how they will sound with guitars recorded, really makes me grin.

Twenty + sound tweaking

Created the 20th song already on last friday evening (as I predicted I would, in previous blog post) but things didn't stop there. During the weekend I've done actually much more soundworkin' than I thought I would at this point.

During saturday I went through all the basslines and tweaked the bass sounds as well. Sweaty stuff, but in the end I truly enjoy the results.

During today, sunday, I've gone through all the drums and finetuned all cymbals and hihats especially. Major improvements, almost like going from demo level stuff into studio level stuff.

I also had time to listen the whole package through 2 times in its' current form - which feels quite ready already (thanks to work done throughout the weekend). I really, I mean really enjoy the material myself. It feels that going into recording guitars for the songs will be really exciting and rewarding, too. That might actually start happening during the coming week if nothing weird happens. I will have to do some guitar sound work / tests first, but depends how things go - might get into recording stage during 1-2 weeks already. We'll see how it goes!

Chippin' report

Things have continued under heavy inspiration & great vibes of creation. As a result since last blog post I've crafted 4 more new song bases. Current amount of song bases is now 19. I already know what kind of track the next one will be. I had a strong urge to do it yesterday already but I guess two new songs was enough work for yesterday eve. And man has to sleep, too! (especially when there's 1 year 4 months old kid in da house these days).

Actually, as I mentioned our firstborn I can also say that she's been part of creative process in about 25 % of the songs. Sitting in my lap while I've been composing and enjoying about what I've been doing. And she's also been a very active beta listener (or shoud I say beat listener) and a good sign when it's a really nasty song. Dancing and going crazy with certain "crazy" tunes. Such fun! :)

So, ... I have a feeling that I will craft the 20th song for the package tonight and quite likely it will be the last one I'm doing for this release. It's not the song number 20 though. You might think I've been doing the songs from 1 into 20, but that's not the case. First 5 songs went like that, but from that forwards it hasn't been like that, pretty much total opposite. Some songs have felt that they need to be song number this and song number that. Red line in the package, yeah. Certain things happening in certain songs.

I'm really looking forward to next stage, which will expand the songs quite a bit - with recording some rhytm guitars (metal style), some guitar solos possibly (well, certainly) and also some hard to describe soundscapes, too.

More stuff forming fast

I'm almost losing count with the song amount, which is not surprising (I guess) considering that I've composed 3 new song bases today alone. Ha! And I really like the stuff that is being formed. Some nasty chippers ahead, that's for sure. The album closer song was crafted yesterday evening after sauna session. All in all, it looks like I have 15 song bases currently ready for working them further.

I think it might well be that this package turns into 20 songs like it was on previous release. Some numbers as well as creativity / flow vibe, and the kind of musical storyline is pointing into 20. So, yeah, that might well be it again.

Anyway, the feeling is not just good, but awesome. It will be great little sequel to 'Toinen' release from 2018, I can already say that. In some ways it will be more stripped down this time, while on the other hand it might be more technical in some ways. Perhaps.

More chips and then some

Not too long from previous post this time, yet I've done 2 new song bases in the meanwhile, one crazy and other even more crazy, ha! And I've got actually ideas playing in my mind for another 2 new song bases so more material is certainly coming. We'll see where it stops eventually.

There is clearly kind of a red line forming with the new material. It might be noted just by me, but who knows, things could be noted by listeners as well. There are some elements, musically - and also with certain stuctures. It's at the same time different from "Toinen" album, but it has some of the same, too. Might be a cliche, but it's a process of continuation. Taking things forwards from previous release, in some ways. There seems to be also some hidden, twisted 'messages' within the music if you could say so.

Music itself, some of it is almost relaxed, borderline melodic - while some of it is (like I begun this post) crazy and somewhat lunatic. Overall it's going to have nice balance though, that's how my vision goes about it at this stage.

More baseworkin' with them chirpies

Some time has passed, and more song bases have been done in the meanwhile. If I remember right, the last time I updated this blog, I had 5 song bases done. Now I have 8 song bases, out of which the latest one was crafted tonight.

Not just chiptune composing, but I've finetuned some drum samples during past few days. Found the sound I was looking for, I think. It works good with both techno style beats as well as with metal style beats. Strong beats, goes without saying.

There is certain pattern forming with songs so completed so far - and it feels good to follow the flow. I can't say for sure yet about how many songs will there be in this package, but my bet would be something like from 15 to 20. Anyway, that's it this time.

Chirp!

Flow on

... going on with the flow, and the flow feels strong. After previous post (which was just some days ago) I have three more new chiptune bases completed. One got done yesterday, while two newbies were born tonight. And more is to come, certainly. To sum the vibes ... it feels good!

3rd times anticharm

So, it seems that I have started something that will turn out ot be the third Chipfusion release at some point. I've been crafting some other music stuff too, but recently I got very creative with chiptune crafting - and as a result I have 2 song bases at hand.

Hard to say yet, will it be different from past releases - probably not very different, but it will be quite rhytmic experiment, so it seems at this point. Things can always change though, when it's about going with the flow & intuition, and that's how I work when it's about crafting music.

I already have a vision how I'll develop the chiptunes, there will be at least 2 or 3 different working stages, out of which the 1st stage will be 100 % flow / intuition based thing. Second stage might be bit more planned, but still flow sets the rules so to speak. Third stage is the least flow based stage, if the third stage happens. Might not be needed.

Not just that, but I also already know the album title. It will be at the same time logical continuation but with a language twist. I also have idea for the cover artwork as well as word play with the song titles. We'll see if it goes according to vision at this stage, or not.

I can't say for sure when this third release will be ready, but I have a feeling it might well happen during this year 2019. Chiptune inspiration is intensive when it comes. :)

'Toinen' has been released today

The release date is here. 2nd february; second day of second month. Album's title "toinen" means "second" (or "other", as well) in english. And it's literally second album, too. It's already available through streaming services like Spotify, too. Enjoy!
